Our Republic Is Under Attack

President Trump and Elon Musk have embarked on an unprecedented assault on the American Republic. Under the guise of “reducing waste, fraud, and abuse,” they want to change the fundamental ways our government operates.

When our Founding Fathers set up our republic, they knew they needed the Legislative Branch, not the Executive, to control the budget. This is because giving the president the “power of the purse” gives that person too much power. This “power of the purse” needed to reside with the people, not a single person. It is why all spending bills must originate in the House of Representatives. When our republic was founded, the Senate was elected by state legislatures, not the people. The House was elected directly by the people.

The Trump 2.0 administration believes in a “unitary executive” and wants to consolidate power in that branch. We cannot allow that to happen. If it does, ours will be the generation that sees the end of the great American experiment.

When asked what kind of government the first Constitutional Convention produced, Benjamin Franklin said, “A republic, if you can keep it.” As we near our 250th birthday, let’s renew our commitment to a free society.

Our goal is to remind Congress to uphold their responsibilities as an equal branch of government as the Executive and to maintain the role of the Judiciary. Will you join us?
